The network's Top Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this endearing family navigate their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to help comedy break out of its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
