The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Famed for Designing for Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer who crafted many legendary styles associated with artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.
His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."
Price's death comes just weeks after he unveiled his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Lasting Legacy
Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
During the nineties, he commenced designing pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as a number of outfits for her US tour after becoming Duchess.
After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
