The English Team to Launch the European Championship 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium
The England national team will embark on their 2028 European Championship campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they secure the relatively straightforward entry for a competition staged throughout most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.
Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an Three Lions game since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is highly likely to stage the England side for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.
England are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning their group, their last-16 tie would occur at St James’ Park. Placing second would mean commencing the playoffs at Everton’s ground.
Competition Launch and Rally
The event was unveiled at an ceremony in a London landmark on Wednesday night. Key representatives from Uefa and the organizing bodies were confronted as they arrived the location by around fifty activists, who demanded the Israeli team to be kicked out from the sport because of the Gaza crisis.
Banners were held up with phrases reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”
Event Schedule
The first match of the European Championship will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a fixture that will feature Wales if they make it.
Wembley Stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the final, which will be played on a Sunday in July 2028 with a commencement at 5:00 PM.
It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for UEFA Champions League finals from next season, will appeal to family audiences and help connect with a more diverse set of fans.
Qualifying Teams
The Ireland are scheduled to play their opening match at the Aviva Stadium and the Tartan Army would follow suit at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
Each host nation’s squad will enter the qualification process; two guaranteed slots will be reserved for any that miss out on the finals through that route.
Stadiums and Playoffs
Villa Park and Spurs’ ground round out the event’s nine venues. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarterfinal matches staged at the national stadium of each host.
The qualifying draw will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a tournament location last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be redeveloped in time, on 6 December 2026.
