President Trump Invites Relatives of Attacked National Guard Members to White House
Former President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Devastating Shooting
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Memorials across the state have occurred in their honor.
White House Invitation
The president stated he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the families of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Response
Community members assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the media. “She was kind, considerate and always ready to help others.”
Funeral details for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Measures and Government Changes
Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident caused the government to suspend asylum processing and halt issuing entry permits to possessors of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on a news program.
Attorney general Bondi told a news show that she aimed to visit the family.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with distinction, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey informed the gathering at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
