New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he is reported as critical but stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities shared security footage earlier this week of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday in the area between the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a newborn.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in spring and was anticipated to become a key part of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn said. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
