People have gathered throughout the country to commemorate the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted assault on October 7th, 2023, as talks continued in Egypt over an end to the war in Gaza.

The attack led to in excess of 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as hostages. It was the uniquely most lethal day for the Jewish community since the World War II.

Israel answered by initiating a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are considered reliable by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The aggressive adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not broken us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the release of all the captured, the elimination of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel".

Remembrance Events Across Israel

The government authorities delayed official commemorations until mid-October - after the conclusion of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still occurred across the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the relatives of Israeli citizens killed in the Hamas attack was organized in the coastal city. Organized by the families themselves, it was aired throughout Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a silent tribute was held throughout the country.

Negotiation Meetings in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas delegations met in the Egyptian tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of third-party negotiations to review the provisions of the proposal.

A senior representative familiar with the negotiations indicated that an evening round of indirect talks commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source stated the day's discussions concluded without tangible results, because of disagreements over the proposed Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not restart hostilities after the opening period of the deal.

He added that the discussions are "challenging and have not yet produce any significant progress," but mentioned that facilitators are striving to close the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Critical Issues in Negotiations

  • An enduring halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the prisoners still held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The removal of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid deliveries
  • Post-war governance of the territory

Citizen Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square earlier, 29-year-old a woman - whose sibling lived through the assault on the outdoor event, where 378 people were lost their lives and many more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - told: "Nowhere appears as home anymore and until all the hostages come back no one will have peace of mind."

"After we see all home again, we can breathe again. Then we can start to heal," she added.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in the capital, people congregated to show their solidarity for the relatives of the abducted. Israel reports nearly fifty stay in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Demonstrator one woman remarked: "We need do any agreement necessary for the captives to return. But we really want guarantees that we will be safe."

Surveys now regularly indicate that around seventy percent of the population desire the hostilities to conclude in return for the release of the abducted.

Palestinian Situation

At the area of Nova festival, those paying respects came together to honor the dead.

From there, the noise of aerial bombardments and explosions could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers reported the severe Israeli shelling persisted.

In the urban center, attacks were reported in the morning of that day in the western neighborhood, Rimal and zone neighbourhoods and in the east side neighbourhood of that sector, as well Shati refugee camp to the north-west.

"When the night comes, the anxiety comes with it," displaced urban resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli bombing previously, explained.

"Me and my three children are fearful of the air strikes. During nighttime we are resting together, embracing, notably my youngest child who places his face on me all night."

"Continuously we monitor the updates to see what happened. And I'm worried that this halt will not be achieved and that the fighting will resume to us."

Medical Emergency

The medical facility in Gaza City reported it had accepted the remains of six people by the daytime, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the southern district.

A different healthcare center in the southern city of Khan Younis reported another two fatalities had been delivered. One of them was killed by Israeli forces while seeking aid to the south region, health workers said.
